BBC Four http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcfour has officially put The Web Of
Fear episode 1 on its schedule for June 26. The 1968 Pat Troughton
episode will air at 8:50PM BST. It is part of an evening of
programming looking at sci-fi/fantasy in the 60s. 7:50PM -
Alchemists Of Sound Radiophonic Workshop. 8:50PM - Doctor Who: The
Web Of Fear episode 1. 9:15PM - Time Shift: Fantasy Sixties. 9:55PM -
Adam Adamant Lives: The League Of Uncharitable Ladies. Speculation
about BBC Four's plans had been rife since they mentioned a sci-fi
night for that evening, put up a photo of a Cyberman from "The
Invasion" on their website, the Restoration Team
http://www.restoration-team.co.uk mentioned that an episode had been
provided to BBC Four for their use, and finally a moderator on the
BBC Four message board mentioned last week that they were trying to
clear The Web Of Fear episode 1 for broadcast. Thanks to those who
contacted me this week.
The Web Of Fear is among the Doctor Who stories that were lost with
the junkings of the 1970s. Only episode 1 survives as of this time.
After the early 70s, the only official appearances of this episode
have been during the BSB satellite channel's Doctor Who weekend in
1990 and in the 2003 VHS boxset of The Reign Of Terror. It stars Pat
Troughton as The Doctor, Frazer Hines as Jamie McCrimmon, Deborah
Watling as Victoria Waterfield, guest starring Jack Watling as
Professor Travers. The Yeti are back, and they're in London.
This marks the first broadcast of a Doctor Who episode on an over
the air BBC channel in the UK since episode 6 of Genesis Of The
Daleks on BBC Two in early 2000. (The Story Of Doctor Who on BBC One
in December 2003 doesn't count - it was a documentary.) It is
unknown if there will be any further Doctor Who repeats on the BBC
channels before the new series launches in 2005.
BBC Kids http://www.bbckids.ca will jump out of the Peter Davison stories mid-run effective July 5 to return to the start of the Tom Baker era. BBC Kids jumped out of the Tom Baker stories mid-run for Davison a few months back. Doctor Who continues to air 7 days a week at 1AM and 3:30AM EDT (10PM and 12:30AM PDT), 2 episodes on weekdays and complete stories on weekends.
Upcoming air dates of the 1996 Doctor Who TV Movie on the Starz!
